@lamby - you need to divide irises to keep them blooming. I divide mine every two or three years. Divide them in the fall and they will bloom again in the spring. If you divide in the spring they may not bloom that year.

And the purples are taking over again! I do have a pale lavender blooming so maybe I may get a few other colors.

I've got bearded iris about ready to go but nothing yet in the pond. Getting more consistent warmer temps though so maybe soon! Got to admit @mrsclem , you do have a purple invasion going on!

One way to tell the more invasive yellow iris....Iris pseudacorus, also called "yellow flag", from Louisiana irises, such as Ann Chowing, Black Gamecock, and hundreds more....Iris pseudacorus has a mid lib in the leaves. A way to tell if an iris will grow in water, or bog...or just with "wet feet", is to hold a blade up to a light. If you can see little dots within the leaf, those are called "water spots" and that iris will grow in water.
