Hi Andy, John and all,
Thanks very much for all your advice. I think John & Andy are right and I'm going to have to invest in some tools to pull out the weed. I'll also get some of the nutrient guzzling plants and see if that stems growth.
Following John's questions I've uploaded a picture of the pond just after we allowed the spring to restart feeding the it last night.
As you can see the water level is quite low because we'd been diverting the spring water away for a week while the cloverleaf was doing its thing (or not doing it rather)!
I'm grateful to have a spring in my new garden and there's no point trying to reshape nature too much. It's a daft mission!
