I now have about a half dozen all black or mostly black from the spring spawn. They are still pretty small so its hard to tell exactally how they will turn out. One of them is black with white.

I love those black koi, but I feared Id never see it, so I bought a black koi with blue and red patches on its body. I tried looking up a pic but I cant find one that looks even remotely like it, must be unique lol. Ill post a pic tomorrow when camera returns from a trip.

do many people buy their fish by mail? are they more susceptible to disease? are there dangers to the pond you bring them into? sorry for all the questions . i was surprised to see fish for sale on ebay.

My wife and I have bought from ebay a few times now, NextDayKoi, KoiToTheWorld, and Kodama Koi are all pretty good dealers. I do Highly recommend quarantining the fish when they arrive and wait for about three to four weeks to introduce them to your pond. Actually I recommend this anytime your adding new fish to your pond, but these will have been stressed and need some time to monitor for problems before adding them to your stock. A good salt bath, a stable temp, and a good viewing tank that is filtered and can be covered are pretty much needed. One thing when ordering from ebay, watch the sizes closely, There is a big difference between a 4" fish and a 8" fish, and they will look closely the same by pics. I do suggest using combined shipping as shipping just one fish is expensive but breaking the cost up between five and six fish greatly reduces that cost. (It cost me about the same to ship a order of koi to my door as it does for me to drive to the best three places I have found locally.). But don't try and buy to many at a time either. 6-8 4"-6" fish are about the limit you really want per box. these sellers will send more if you ask, I say stop there, less stress on the fish, less chance of a DOA, and chances are you'll get healthier fish if you stay below that. When we order we try and keep the total inches for smaller fish at less than 40" total fish per box for under 8" size fish. I don't recommend using PrettyKoiFish, That is the one dealer I had a problem with, She worked out a agreeable refund and all wasn't her fault but she used pond water to ship her fish, She shipped more fish than I ordered but all of them died but two, The biggest died within 24 hours. May have been other factors involved as well but the other three dealers I have had good luck with. If I had to pick one for the best all around service, quality of koi, and most helpful after the sell it would be NextDayKoi by a long shot! Hope this helps and Good Luck, Oh, BTW, Make your first pick a super nice one, that way it gives you more time to fill in your order as all do have a time limit to combine shipping.
