Hi. I Used some blocks for part of my bog/ pond wall too. The key is to fill the bog and pond so they have the same height water so there is equal pressure from both sides of the dividing wall then your bog liner will stay in place and won’t slip or move. I don’t see why you need to have anything heavy on top. I put some rocks on top but they quickly got covered with plants. I don’t think you should put bags with soil because it will just make the bog dirtier. Once your bog gets going your plants will go in all directions including your pond. The plants will like the bog more than being in dirt!Unlike in the Poconos, I have no stones whatsoever in my soil! So every last one have them has to be purchased and brought to the site. I love the look and will use loads of stones for the pond and stream, but I would like the bog to have a different look and blend as seamless as I can manage with all the surrounding plants.
