We used to gig for flounder, back in the old days, when the tide was out, just loved it. My mom, short heavy, would surf fish, so much fun to watch this 5'3" person stand in the surf and try to catch the big one!
my husband tried that in his kayak. He fail miserable and didn't bring home (tent) dinner that night ;) The clamming is fun for me the most, i'd do it until my shoulder burned (and I dont burn, dark skin and all) the smaller clams (legal size) are the ones I like the most, the big ones are too tough.

We have wild horses around here, but they are mostly decendants from logging and mining operations from the early 1900's.
Some pet heroses get out and into the local "wild" herds.
Our government rounds up a number of them each year and auctions them off.
They can damage local grazing property and of course do not receive veterinary care, so can have health issues.

They warn about rabies

They round them up here too, auction them off, sometimes big companies buy them for a write off then send them back to the island. There does not seem to be a problem with over grazing, land looks good. No cows sheep etc on the island, just the horses and whatever else happens to live there.

I love Assateague! I was born in Salisbury, and as a kid, our usual vacations were to Ocean City and Assateague Island. In fact, one of my earliest memories was of a woman being trampled by a horse. She had her back turned, then a horse got spooked and started running toward her. She turned around right at the last moment and got knocked to the sand. I don't remember what ever happened, but I don't think she was seriously injured, as I don't recall any ambulances or much commotion afterwards.

It's a place I've been meaning to take my kids to, but just haven't gotten around to doing it.

So do I a lot of fond memories from long time ago. We camped in the woods, Appalachian trail, Assateague, Hatteras, Ocacroke,Trap pond
Imagine a family of 8 kids, in a pink station wagon with a pop coleman tent trailer. We had a blast!

We upgraded our beaching.
Bought a shade covering, you can raise it with one hand, picked up a beach cart to haul the stuff. Sure makes it easier to haul all your beaching stuff. Added a few chairs , just love sitting there and reading. And missy loves laying in the shade, digging in the sand.

And one mile from our campground, i.e. rv site, we saw a boat for sale! A very nice 80+ gentleman had put up his boat for sale, a 97 catamaran type boat, 20ft. He and his sons had used it for years, his age has made it to difficult to continue and the kids weren't using it anymore.
Perfect for the shallow bay water, a walk, around perfect for crabbing, fishing etc. And the price was perfect, ie cheap.

We put a deposit on it then next trip back checked out the motor, it runs! a 4 stroke very quiet motor YEAH so we purchased it and hauled it back to our site. Next trip over we will venture out on the bay. We need a few things, like a ship to shore radio, depth finder, gps unit, safety issues. lol

Nice addy!:)
That's not a Boston Whaler, is it?
It looks like one from the side, but no it is not. We have a 27 foot boston whaler stored down in florida with two dead engines. Need to either fix it or sale it.

It is a nautico, made by sea gull. What is nice is it has a very shallow draw. The bay is darn shallow, you have to be very careful.

Lovely little boat you have there @addy1 - will we now have to share you with some Boating Forum? ;)
nah, between the pond forums and the bee forum, no need for a boat forum, enough is enough. I have too much to do to sit and type all day.

We are very casual boaters, never go far out into the ocean, most likely not more than a mile off shore. Usually go out and just float around, don't even fish much. Right now not at all, we need to get licenses.
