I never intended to add it to the bog. I ordered it thinking it would be good around the edge on the driveway side since its supposed to not get that tall. The bog will be chock full of plants when I am done with it. I will have a canna wall in the back, pickerel rush, cardinal flower and taro in the middle and still trying to decide on some shorter creeping bog plants for the front. I will probably due Marsh Marigold and some creeping type bog plants in the front. Either Creeping Jenny or maybe Bog Bean? I have the Jenny just looking at other option of plants that will grow down the big rocks in the front of the bog.Your loosing the point of the bog. the chemical and fine sediment filter is part of this feature, it's the plants. While the plants around the pond is great in softening the edges the plants can absorb nutrients from the water BUT they can't do much in fine mechanical filtering and they are exposed to multiple more nutrients being in the bog. When the pea soup and then string algae starts thats when youll need the bog full of plants . in time the bog without plants it may control the balance but that's a longer road
Yes! didnt make much progress for like a week then improved dramatically overnight and its getting better every day. Finally saw the fish for the first time since adding them. They were out at night with the lights on looking for food.Looks like your water is clearing up nicely already!
I think I will pass...haha. Whats a good bog creeper that will look nice cascading over the bog rock wall? I have Jenny but thought I would see what else is out there. Will Bog Bean do the same thing?I have few nice clusters of horde tail if you dare
A creeping phlox could potentially work to cascade over the bog. They have a larger flower bloom then creeping Jenny and can tolerate some moisture if in direct sun which your pond looks like it is. I am currently looking at all the creeping plants myself to soften rock work. Anything in the Sedum family for your climate zone is also good for in between rockscape that is not in the bog. I am going to get some Wild Stonecrop for in between some of my larger boulders.I think I will pass...haha. What's a good bog creeper that will look nice cascading over the bog rock wall? If you don't mind using an annual, I've found that ornamental sweet potato vine does well in the bog and tucked into rock crevices. Both the bright green and the purple foliage are a lovely cascade and the purple foliage one is a nice contrast to all the green plants. They grow quickly and extravagantly, you can break off a piece and it roots quickly in its new home. (it's also readily available and inexpensive.)I never intended to add it to the bog. Look at you go two pics in one week careful you'll loose you happy redneck reputation. Your getting technifiedForgetmenots, will grow over your bog wall and do it quickly, quicker than creeping Jenny. They get blue flowers in late spring too. Here is a mix of the two in my bog, both are growing over the bog walls.View attachment 150818
