I don't care how many beautiful plants you tempt me with, j.w. You still can't catch and eat my trout! :p However, I will trade some broadleaf weeds or a slug or two for one of those beauties. :sneaky:

Ok found out there are 2 different kinds. Mine is the cold hardy kind:
Golden Chain Tree

Small Ornamental Yellow Flowering Tree

golden-chain-tree.jpg

The Golden Chain Tree (Laburnum) is a very unique tree to grow in your yard or garden.

Here you'll find pictures and growing needs for this yellow flowering tree.

The lovely Golden Chain (Laburnum Tree) is one of the most beautiful of the small ornamental flowering trees.

The bright yellow flowers hang in pendulous clusters in late Spring.

These small ornamental trees are deciduous. They do best in zones 5b to 8.

The very attractive yellow blooms come in long clusters up to 20 inches long.

And yours is the tropical kind:
Golden shower tree, Indian Laburnum - To many tropical gardeners, the most beautiful of cassias is Cassia fistula. This is a medium to large tree with ovate, pointed leaflets; when these drop, usually in the dry season, masses of bright gold flower clusters appear on almost every branch. This tree drops leaves in fall/winter.

Cassia fistula
Family: Caesalpinioideae / Caesalpiniaceae
Golden Shower Tree, Indian Laburnum, Ratchaphruek
Origin: South Asia

This is a national flower of Thailand and one of the most impressive cassias. From early spring through summer, it displays beautiful cascades of golden flowers. Cassia is a large genus with some 500 species, among which are a number of highly attractive flowering trees. To many tropical gardeners, the most beautiful is Cassia fistula. This is a medium to large tree with ovate, pointed leaflets; when these drop, usually in the dry season, masses of bright gold flower clusters appear on almost every branch. Cassia likes full sun and well-drained soil and to bloom profusely require a dry season.

Hybrids:

Cassia bakeriana x fistula

Cassia fistula x javanica

So pretty! Things are just starting to grow here, but you've made me want to get out and start planting around my ponds!

Lovely gardens, j.w.! The only things flowering here are tiny little blue and white bulb-type things. Forgot the names. BTW, the plant you can't remember (first pic in the second post) is an oak. Not familiar with Western varieties, but it's DEFINITELY an oak!

Thanks again guys and dolls :)

Haro you really think it's an Oak. That's what people told me here before that they thought it was quite awhile back but how come it never gets any bigger? Do Oaks grow super slow and if I left it where it is and it's an Oak it will kill our deck and eat our house up eventually. I will have to move it out in the way back part of our property. You sure it's an Oak? If so I'm moving it this fall when it loses the leaves.

haver we hardly ever have to water here that's one thing for sure and actually there is fertilizer (nitrogen) in the rain and snow (we don't get much snow tho)..............that's what I've heard anyways.
