I will try some submerged plants in the turtle pond once I finish getting it set up.

Don't know why, keeping freshwater aquariums of any sort never held my interest.

A 4' deep 65 gal tank is an oddball dimension, unless you mean 4' long.

WAIT your right just looked it up, apparently I need to get back on the "measuring train" because I suck at guestimating.
Dimensions:
37 x 19 x 25

Here's an underwater shot from last year, a few comets swimming among the lily stems and some parrotfeather.

Here's a diagram that shows where in the pond to place the different plants:

Here's one with a ton of plants in and around the water. This one requires annual pruning to prevent the plants from taking over! The Iris especially, they'll spread rhizomes and get thicker and fuller if we don't slice off the new rhizomes at the base. The positive side is we then get a bunch of new plants to share with neighbors.

Here's a shot of the same pond as above, showing the stream and waterfall in the back by the fence. This was taken the previous year, and you can see how much thinner the yellow flag was compared to the other picture.

@RichardSJPonds - pretty pond! You illustration kind of makes my point - the plants that grow best from the deepest part of the pond are your lilies. Everything else is either marginal or floating.

@DutchMuch - that was my guess on the depth. I'll stick with my assertion that my big flopping koi would destroy any submerged plants in my pond. They are clumsy and barrel around like the house is on fire when they get interested in something.
