Update - after having the mosquito dunks in the pond since yesterday, the squirmy little worms on the back of my lily pads are gone. So I guess that mystery is solved. Mosquito larva! No wonder the mosquitoes are eating me alive out there!

Wow the dunks worked quickly! I put one "cookie" in my 2400 gal pond which may be slightly under treating but I also stocked some minnows so they will help also. Ruby red minnows are 14 cents each at petsmart. I don't see them as they are small but I did finally catch a glimpse a few this last week and they where much larger than when I out them in so they are doing well. I hasn't solved out mosquito problem but it is helping...they are so terrible this year!

I haven't seen any this year, one plant pot had too much water, not in the pond, it did get some larvae going. Last year I squished one all summer. I think all our birds, frogs, dragon flies make short work of them.

Dunks are BTI (bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) bacteria for mosquito and black fly larvae. Dipel Is BTK (bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki) for caterpillars. The bacretia live in the water. By spraying the top of the leaves thouroughly the caterpillars on the underside get infected and die. Only harmful to very specific species of insects. Yellow ing pads come with the leaf aging which is normal or with a lack of nutrients. Sometimes frogs spawning causes leaf deteriation and certain tree frogs eat lilly pads.
