OK -- interesting info/experiences. Pretty cool, getting to hand-feed your turtle. I think it'd be some time before my little shelled reptile would go for that. For the time-being, Lambchop doesn't seem even a little interested in hitting the road. The pond itself is an oval (~12' X 8') and 3' deep in the middle, so .... I'm not sure that size is adequate for a turtle as big as L. is (football-sized). Eventually I might feel that re-homing him into the watery area he hails from (New Bern, NC) would be the ethical thing. Basically, he swims in pond-edge circles, or relaxes on the pond-edge, or just floats -- until he swims more. Seems to enjoy ripping the water lily to pieces. Delinquent. .....

I read this online and wonder if it's true that turtles should be left near where they are found? https://myreptileguide.com/why-you-should-not-relocate-turtlesFood

I'm going to ruminate on this; food for thought. Plainly, Lambchop's managed OK w/o me for plenty of years -- parking lot notwithstanding, he could probably make it for more in his native world ....

@researcher I think that online site is good for people who might think moving a turtle away from a road to safety too far away from his hood might not be the best for it. Your turtle is well cared for and has food delivered to it so perhaps the situation could be a bit different in this case. Now if you were to just take him somewhere and let him go he may be in a heap of trouble then.
