I wonder if those solar flood lights from Walmart would work? Because I did pull the tab out of one, one day and it sure was bright. Maybe I will pick some up and try them.

The only problem with solar is how long they last after dark depends on how much light they get during the day and those batteries do not last long .I guess if they are cheap enough not bad .But i would rather have lights on my pond all night this way if i hear or see anything there I have a better chance of saving my fish .The down lights i bought can be easly wired to a tree or put on a 4x4 with something pretty on the 4x4 .

My solar path lights stay on all night but they only have one led light in them and the spotlights have three but they probably have more batteries. I guess I will give them a try.

My solar landscaping lights last long enough to get me through the evening. They probably go out soon after I go to bed, but who cares? I'm sleeping.

I bought a set of two of those spotlights last year from menards, they are pretty bright, and they are usually off when i walk out in the morning, so im not sure how long they last, but ive had them for a year now. I also bought a set of 8 or 10 of the little one led paths lights and have those all around the pond.
i can try to get you some night pics tonight.... im usually in bed before it gets totally dark though.... for some reason i think i posted some last year. lemme look.

These are from last year, i just had those two spotlights, and then two little color changing globes, i bought the set of path markers for around the reat of the pond this year, but those two little spotlights do pretty well.
the pictures are actually darker just because of the camera... you can see it alot better in real life.

Wouldnt hurt to try, I think I bought set of 2 for around $10, if you dont like them you can always upgrade later.

Jeez i had a lot of water lettuce last year... Mine is multiplying this year, but not like it was then. I remember taking multiple handfuls out and tossing them because my pond was probably 98% covered for a while. throw a handful of food in and none hits the water.

I live in durango, up on the mesa going towards farmington. But I live by all the irrigated fields so no fire can get me. Was it missionary ridge fire that burned by your house?

It was in 2002 I think if I recall right. We had a house (cedar log cabin we had built) in vallecito valley, 8000 feet, beautiful valley right next to a river , had a trout stream and pond right off our deck. Out near bayfield. They made everybody leave, after the fire there where horrible mud slides. I have not been back since the fire. We had emptied the house about 2 weeks before it hit.

My hub at the time ended up not being able to handle the cold or altitude so we sold it, took two years after the fire hit to sale.

Started, they think, by a cig butt.

Yep it was in 2002, 10 years ago. Vallecito is very pretty but I wouldn't ever live in the mountains because of the fires.
