I was just at one of my local nurseries and they had some hardy water lilies for $39.95 and I was just wondering what kind of hardy water lilies I should use in my pond I know they had white flowers but Idk exactly what kind they were so if anyone has any suggestions it is greatly appreciated. I will probably go back to the nursery Saturday and take pictures of the pond they have its beautiful

You can get any type of hardy lilies, some grow bigger than others. If they are not labeled it is really hard to know what kind they are, so many look alike.

I will probably go back to the nursery Saturday and get some names because I pretty much just want to soften the edges. Hey you could try putting in some little feeder goldfish and see how they do over winter. They are very hardy. All you need in the winter is a hole in the ice and that can be easily done w/ a bubbling air stone. I don't think your pond will freeze solid at 2&1/2 ft will it? I don't know, maybe it would :regular_waving_emot

I think it will freeze solid although if I get little fish I could get a tank and put it in my house and put them in it for the winter

Yep that's a good idea and you will really enjoy the fish in the warmer months and they will keep all the skeeters away too. I sit and watch my goldfish a lot. I love when they see me coming w/ their food, their little mouths wide open and begging for food. They also make little floating or submersible heaters for ponds to keep the ice from freezing solid. Never had one and don't know how feasible that is for really cold, cold weather.

I think it will probably freeze all the way through though and I won't have any water it will be all ice but I could try a heater to keep apart of it melted

Also read somewhere that if water is moving constantly it helps to keep it from freezing. So if one had a submersible pump going underwater all winter that might work also. I guess your first winter will be a trial run to see how it does.

Yes it will be I had heard about leaving the pump on but for some reason if you lose electricity u can break the pump and end up killing the fish but thanks for the help

Yep I guess there is always something that can go wrong no matter how good you think you have it rigged. Anyway good luck and happy pondering :regular_waving_emot
