I am curious about the diy filtration, will look into it and see what it entails. :cheerful:
I'm a fellow "newbie." I started planning about 2 years ago, then got the pond in and running last year -- about a year ago. I was originally thinking of using pre-forms 'cause I "thought" that was easier than doing a liner pond. Until I really did some reading about them. Then decided it was easier to dig a hole & unfold a liner. Pump & filter ideas pretty much followed similar paths. I made a DIY (Skippy) filter, but am transitioning to a bog (veggie) filter. You can check out the DIY section for ideas. It's all a learning process, and the best thing you can do is ask lots of questions (like you're doing). What works for one person, doesn't always work for someone else, and there's not always a clear answer to WHY.

Oh, and we do have a few "hot heads" running around here, but they're harmless (or so I've been told) :)

Hi thank you. My way of thinking was to go with the preformed being I am new to this. I figure start small and work
Your way up. " should" I decide I don't enjoy the upkeep, I bring the fish in and they become
My aquarium pets. Hence no koi at the moment.
I have a lot to learn about these DIY filters but definitely finding them intriguing for sure.

Depends on your weather, I would think it gets cold up there and the 18 inches might freeze solid.

That looks wonderful, fantastic job.
