My husband and I are working on designing a new filter as we speak. Still having problems but think we need to alter our waterfall a little. I plan on shutting it all down, cleaning the waterfall and basin real well, letting it all dry and then using that black pond foam to help "direct" the water down the falls. Right now it is trickling since the stream is so spread out, allowing plant matter and bird waste to stay on the falls and create sludge, having more flow in a smaller area will hopefully cut down on that.

As we design our new set up, here our our requirements:

1) Filter and components out of pond allowing for more pond space and ease of servicing
2) Must be easy to clean/go long periods without servicing
3) Must be on a shoestring budget
4) We are not pros, so must be easy to set up
5) Must be large enough to handle a larger pond volume down the road
6) Must be able to hide it somehow

Whew, sorry thinking out load again.

Are there certain plants/types of fish you can purchase that are specifically used to combat the spread of algae throughout your pond?

Hi guys! Algae is really a tough problem in ponds. I also know a blog site that has great information and alternatives about algae prevention, I think you might want to check it out. Hope it helps!
