String algae is a symptom, not a problem. Some is good - like oil on your skin; too much is bad. But it's TELLING you something. But keep emptying your pond and scrubbing it clean - nature will just keep playing along with you and repeating the cycle. Right now she's telling you that you have too many nutrients (fish waste, overfeeding, dead organics) and not enough plants to handle it. So HERE YOU GO! Have some ALGAE! Your fish are grateful it's there, I guarantee you. Otherwise they'd likely be dead.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's a POND not a POOL.
gonna hafta re-consider yer OTG application, Lisa; this above is right in our creedo! Right there next to; We LUVS our algae!!! Gotta git more!

Sooooo, right, this above; easier to let nature do the heavy lifting and you just tweak if She misses a step trying to keep up witcha when yer dancin'!

Many of us find that equilibrium, then sit back with that libation in hand (I think the Boss calls it; LAP -- look it up in the Acro list!) and watch the fish swim by. Literally.

Go Lisa, go Lisa, go Lisa.., :D:D:p:cool::rolleyes:

This was in July.
My pond was overtaken by that same algae this summer, as I don’t have great filtration amd not too many plants either.

I found that just manually taking it out was best, think of it as a water change, taking out the organics that hold the fish poo, and if you take out enough of them it will become less of a problem over time.

You can remove it by hand if you have the time and energy to do it... BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO. Make the adjustments and watch it go away LIKE MAGIC.

Plants? Finer mesh in filter box? Less herd? Can't be reduced direct sunlight coz I ain't got any but alge on my small waterfall, tho not a problem to remove the bits that impede the sweetest noise flow.
