Hey that hole looks familiar Mitch.

Hello folks, Well I overflowed the pond in 2 aeration spots and it didn't work that great but ammonia dropped to 1ppm. Warming up also so I will actually pump out water.

Funny we talking about salt in pond water in other topic and that probably would have stopped the stupid fungi. So I'm adding salt now.

Bottom temp a nice cozy 39.9F with the heater coming on not everyday based on the electric bill.

I add the salt to my filters and allow it to slowly enter the pond as it desolves .I was wondering something I was talking to a guy near here who has a natural pond and it is really clear and he puts bags of coal hanging off the dock and his father and grandfather did the same thing and pond looks so good it i amazing any one ever hear of this .This is the first time i have ever heard of this in my life but he told me a lot of the old farmers did this for a long time .This is a pretty big pond and by the looks of the center float he keeps in and is tied to a weight that hits the bottom it is around 15 ft deep .His grandchildren swim there and have those little foot paddle boats in there .I can see the bright red weight on the bottom under the float ,it is not completely clear but you can see red .He has no aerator or pumps .

I've known a lot of old farmers, and some of the things they do all the time can be pretty damn disgusting! :ugh: But no, I've never heard of hanging bags of coal in the water. Do they set them on fire to melt the ice? :cheerful:

The coal is really charcoal and we put that in fish tanks to keep the water clean, charcoal is good for all water, even the water we drink. You can find bulk charcoal at any pet store and if it works good in a fish tank it will work good in a pond. I can get loads of charcoal that is natural down by the river, as it fall out of the nearby hills we have, you can see lines of coal seams on the side of all the hills by the river down here. Charcoal is also commonly used in water filters. :)
