Up to 30 inches but the opening to the pond is only a foot and a half wide and I have rocks at this opening so I can adjust the depth of the opening. In the spring and summer it's about 10 inches deep. But when the trees start dropping seeds or leaves I'll reduce that to 6 inches or less to increase the draw of the intake.

If you look within aquascapes videos they did a pool conversion for Ohio fish rescue and a homeowner both of which the wetland filter is at the bottom of the pool. There is no you must build to this size this flow. So long as you stick to the guide lines the basic principles it seems to work just fine

@GBBUDD Thank you, I watched the Ohio Fish Rescue Video on Aquascape, WOW! that was quite a project, this indoor fish pool. Do you have the link or the name of the other video of the homeowners wetland filter built lower?

Here in Europe they often build ponds like this picture with a "regeneration zone" on the sides of the swimming zone (with or without water pump circulation I think)

I guess many people research quite a lot before building their water features! However, it's always reassuring to get advice from others who went through the same process. In my case, many questions regarding my design, (will it work? Which size this? Which size that ? etc..), but now I'm even more motivated to get started after reading this forums comments (and specially yours).

Aquascapes DIYer of the year, I mean... that's not nothing 👍🏻😃

there is a very recent post where someone i believe it was @Laaf just posted the video on another link.

thanks for the praise. and no those wetlands off to the side are upflow wetland usually. some will try the airlift to save on energy but i don't think the results are worth the savings. you need to have double the square feet of wetland with air lift over a pump
