Hello
Very nice setup
I have always wanted to try discus, still might one day.
I your fish list you have corys and a pleco and a louche
Those are bottom dwellers and would prefer a substrate I believe.
I know with no sustrate it is easier to clean and all, but you are also give up more space, for beneficial bacteria to grow.
Also
Are you doing co2 plus ferts for your plants ?

Thanks for compliment. The pleco was sold to LFS, louche was put in a 75 gal angel tank. The Cories remain in the discus tank as a clean up crew. Although many will use substrate for planted tanks it is strongly discouraged by the " discus experts" . I could not believe all the detritus when I removed the substrate. Discus are sensitive to water conditions and many will do 50-100% water changes a minimum 3 days a week.
The sump has 7 1.5 " Matala pads that provide plenty space for the BB to thrive.
For the plants I add liquid ferts including excel ,iron and potassium .

Discus added in Oct have grown and filled out. This pic is from Feb. Some color changes since I'm not feeding them food with color enhancers.

This cute couple spawned but unfortunately the eggs became food
