lordy mclordy somebody put an aphrodisiac in our pond. our pond is 5-6 years old and this is the first year for babies and these fishy friends are making up for lost time i guess.

what do you do with all the small fish. we're a couple months into the babies and some are not so small anymore. pretty sure they're all koi, but we do have a some large goldfish. i can't really see whiskers on even the larger ones, but maybe that comes with age.

anyway, what do you do with all the small fish? our pond cannot handle another 50 odd fish. we have 4500 gallons with 7 koi and 6 goldfish. we have dual filtration so can handle the load through the winter, but come summer we are way into way too many fish.

i was thinking of selling the big boys and girls, but have no idea what they are worth. all but one are over 20 inches. one is solid lemon yellow. one is white, black and red. two are orange, black and white. one is all black with gold highlights along the fins and butterfly fins. and one is black and orange with butterfly fins.

thanks,

rick

You can take them to your local Petco. Mine accepts donated fish. They have a tank there for that. I've even taken donations in return.

Yes, We used to have a local aquarium store that would take and sometimes buy fish from customers. I never asked at the bigger stores but I would think it depends on the store manager.

You can always ask around to friends, co workers, family, etc. Even an ad on craigslist can sometimes help you find homes for your extras. Or as some have been known to do, you could always set up another pond ;)

See if there is a local club, I donate extras to the LSU garden club show for our club to make a little $$ to go towards hosting our first Koi and Goldfish show.

Around here, you could probably sell the koi for a couple of dollars apiece. You would probably have to pay a couple of dollars apiece to get someone to take the goldfish.
