what thinkness should i use when i use a pond liner thats not forms

What thickness should a linker be if I want to design my own shape? I heard the epdm (hope that's right ) is the best. Thanks for the help.

And use a underliner felt will really help to prevent puntures.

I use tar paper for roofing under my underliner because of moles ..They chewed my liner in several places .
