Well, I need to get a new pump for the Skippy Filter I put in last year....
I know this isn't normal but, I usually use pool pumps to run my water fall and skippy filter but, the one on the Skippy died this year...
Every time I go to look at the pond pumps I get very overwhelmed and confused.
Can anyone give me a suggestion on what I need to look for when shopping for a pump??? If I remember correctly, my Skippy is a 100 gal.

Thanks! :)

Pondmaster makes pretty good products in my opinion, i use a pondmaster 500 and 1200 and have not had any issues out of either, they make 100 gph up to 3000gph i think

Laquana if you want to save money on your electricity bill and you want the pump to last longer between changes. I've used pondmaster pumps as well and for the money they are good pumps until they get clogging or run dry, then they don't last long. Laguana pumps on average last about twice as long but cost almost twice as much, the saving comes in electrical savings over the long term.

I'm thinking hard on buying the Laguna 4200 baeya since I've heard it is a hard worker and good on energy savings. I found a couple places that sell it for a pretty good deal at least in my opinion. If anybody knows any better place to buy that'd be great too. I found one on Ebay new for a buy now price or a make offer and wait to see if you win.

The only thing is you can't get extended warranty and if you are putting out money I would want a warranty .

Thing is where do you have to ship it to get it fixed .My neighbor Tammy has a pump that has spent more time being repaired than in her pond ,she is using one of my harber frieght ones again .She called consumer affairs to file a complaint and force them to either give her money back or give her a new pump .The pump is a year old now and has been repaired ,I think this is the 3rd time but not sure .It seems to run a couple of hours and then siezes up ,nothing seems to be stuck in the impellors anywhere .

i just ordered a Laguna powerjet 2150 gph pump ... its not like the maxflo and powerflo series in the cages. maxflo are the best on energy. theyre computer controlled to maintain a steady even flow of water. adjusting power use as needed. i dont need or want the cage so i opted for the skimmer style pump which i can plumb remotely to my prefilter, as usual. i will still run my 1000 gph Fishmate pump thru the filter. and venturi this pump into the top of the filter for added aeration and circulation. it will be directed into the weir for the falls....this will increase my falls flow from 1800 gph to roughly 3000 gph. i may put this pump will be on a timer (i already have one)....12 - 14 hours a day..& have it.off at night.but the 1000 gph pump will of course run 24 / 7.. Fishmate pumps are also good on power use...my 1000gph uses 44 watts.
***i havent tried 3000 gph thru my weir...may have to enlarge the opening just bit in heigth.*** might raise the filter 4- 6" as well for a better drop to the falls!

I will take a look at the Laguna's pumps. The pumps I have seem to be working better now, not sure why....
My pond looks so nice and clear! I'm so glad I found this forum last year. So sorry that I didn't share to much time with all of you for the Winter. I was thinking of you, though! After my friend sold me his whole 90 gal aquaium setup, I went a little crazy with Angelfish. I now have the 90, twin 65's, a 29, a 15 and a 2.5. I'm waiting for my first pair to breed.
My poor Koi are back at the bottom of the pond with the cold spell we've been having. I can't wait until it warms up so I can get outside and tidy up. I wonder if the Koi are going to spawn again this year???
