Mark, thanks for your reply. I asked because it has been suggested that I treat the pond with Form-a-Lite but The info is not to do this if you have tench in the pond.hi bluefox, that is a golden tench and very nice, they can be rather timid and hang out at the bottom of the pond i have 3 and they will wait till the big fish have eaten before coming up, kind of staying out of the way in the rush, one of the ones i have is about 25 years old and has stayed about the same size as when i got it, hope this helps and welcome to the forum. cheers mark
hi bluefox, i would be very careful using form a lite, why are you using it? it contains formalin and malachite which if overdosed are very lethal to fish, tell us why you want to use it what symptons are your fish showing ? as mmathis said give an intro in the introductions and members may be able to help with your fishy problems, lots of pics and water test results ie ammonia nitrite nitrate ph kh gh are a must, cheers markMark, thanks for your reply. Hi Mark, I have a mixture of goldfish, 2 tench (as you have seen) and some Koi. Some of my goldfish seem to have fin rot so I was informed that formalite would cure this. Other than that the fish look really healthy. The only other problem is murky water which won't seem to clear. Thanks Richard.hi bluefox, i would be very careful using form a lite, why are you using it? it contains formalin and malachite which if overdosed are very lethal to fish, tell us why you want to use it what symptons are your fish showing ? as mmathis said give an intro in the introductions and members may be able to help with your fishy problems, lots of pics and water test results ie ammonia nitrite nitrate ph kh gh are a must, cheers mark
Hi j.w. I was advised to use form a lite because some of my goldfish seem to have fin rot. I dont know whether it is good advise or not. I haven't used it yet as unsure.
Hi Mark, the pond is 9ftx6ft and 2ft6inches deep. I have tried to attach a video so that you can see the fish but it won't upload so here is a pic of it.hi bluefox, how big is your pond ? how many fish ? what kind of filtration ?water test results will help to find out why your fish have fin rot try and take a picture of the fish and your pond and post them here, but the test results are important for now, if you go ahead and dose without that information you might end up with more problems or even worse, adding form a lite means you have to know the EXACT amount of water in your pond. also if you have added any other treatments prior to using f-a-l then that can cause problems too, personaly i would hold of on any treaments get your water tested and if possible do a scrape and microscope check of the poorly fish your local pond/garden centre shop should be able to help with that. cheers mark
Hi Mark, yes it is a pressure filter, 6000 litre with a 4000 litre pump. The biggest Koi I have had for 15 years and all the Koi I have had from about 4 inches long. They have done well so far. We have been thinking about building a bigger pond so after your comments I think that is the next step. I have an airline in as well. I will get the water tested in the next few days. Regards Richard.hi bluefox, nice looking pond, what type of filtration are you using ? is that a pressure filter ? do you have an air line ? the main thing if you can is water testing, i know i have mentioned testing a lot but it will give forum members more of an idea of what is going on in your pond and then be able to help, fin rot is bacterial and that normally comes with bad water problems. i can see some koi in there have you had them since they were small ? your pond is roughly 800 gallons and that is not enough for 1 koi as your koi grow and they will what was ok a few years ago is now not and your water quality will suffer because of this koi produce an enormous amount of waste thats why you are having algae and clarity problems, post test results and then see where to go from there, hope this helps, cheers mark.
