My tap water ph is somewhat around 8.0, but my pond has always been much higher (9.0 ) after reading on here, I now wonder if we built it using Lime Stones, and if so, I would like to change those stones but don't know what they look like! Any suggestions?

Limestone reacts to acid, if that's any help. What's the source of your rock?

Also, our pond started out with a pH over 9.0, but gradually worked itself down in the first year or so. I wouldn't worry too much about it. pH swings are harder on fish than stable higher pH.

The stones in the pond were gathered from our property and that of our neighbors
We built this pond over 10yrs ago.
What kind of "reaction" am I looking for?

Thank you :)

Limestone is usually greyish in colour and is close textured which causes sharp edges when fractured. It's generally pretty smooth, not rough and grainy like sandstone is. When you smash it up, the damaged parts look whitish in colour. Hope this helps.
