I want to be able to hose my garden plants and lawn with pond water (and refill the pond with tap water). Im confused as to what I need for this.

THe pump should activate automatically as I open the hose, and shut down as I close it, (and not putting so much pressure on it that it could burst a normal garden hose).

What do I need?

I bought a pump at lowes I think it is a wayne that has where you just screw on the end of the hose to it. Similar to this one but mine is several years old. Could probably find one at harbor freight if they have those over there or amazon. I also to use when I backflush my filter to clean the gunk off my strapping every few months I just use the water from the pond.

I had a idea last night just before going to sleep. lol Yep thinking pons stuff not counting sheep, LOL Anyway, Have you seen those long tubes they use for cleaning gravel in fish aquariums? What if you gat one of those tubes with about 20-30 foot of hose, put a small inline pump with a small valve. This would be a 2 person job, one sucking the muck from the bottom the other watering the plants. Great way to do a water change, suck the muck off the bottom and fert. plants all in one.... It would be very similar to a Python no spill and fill set-up only having a inline pump to take over instead of gravity feed. I bought one of those in line pumps (Lowes) a while back to empty the dogs swimming pool and refill it, I've used it for a couple of other small projects, They run about $40 USD and I would think the hose and syphon tube would be about $25 USD.

Oh duh. Of course I could just use my pressure filter's backflush. I am not using that filter right now, but I could just leave it empty and put it in front of my DIY biofilter and use if for this only. Just set it to backflush and attach a hose. Only concern is that my pump is probably far too powerful, I doubt a normal garden hose could stand that much pressure, so I better not use a "diffusor" or whatever you call that on the hose. Ill try it out, thanks for the tip!

edit: I suppose I could make a T so that the pressure can escape back to my boifilter if the garden hose is closed. Problem solved!

I have to have my wife plug it in or unplug to shut it off, I use a standard garden hose with a standard gentle shower end that you find on the garden wands. Never had any problems.

I have a 22000 liter/h pump (6000 gallon). It already tore apart a pond hose when my fountain head clogged, emptying my pond overnight. Not going to take that chance again! Maybe Ill hook it up to one of my smaller pumps, but still wouldnt hurt to have a 'wastegate' to prevent excessive pressure building in a gardenhose.

Little tag team thinking outside the box and it looks like we both going to be doing ponding projects today! LOL lets us know how it works. I would love to get this filter up and running today but got crawfish to boil and a trip into town to make so I better get going before the crowd re-arrives. Going to be another house full today.
