i got home tonight and my pond was almost empty the out let on the filter got clogged up with some media that my sister in law made tying to help clering up the water. water over flowed from the filter and went in-between the new liner and the old one the koi were fine in a pocket of water at the bottom and was able to pump it half full with the water under the liner and filled u are 300 gal tank and put that in it. when the water was down i saw something small moving and just thawt it was one of the bullfrog tadpoles but to my surprise it was an inch long black koi so one of the eggs from my may 1st span was good and he actually survived was looking for more but i think he is the only one

Oi! I've been there. It's a fright for sure.

Make sure you out an overflow pipe into your filter, so that if water climbs to a certain point, the water will escape out the pipe and head right back into the pond. Try to make this pipe as big as possible so water can move quickly. At least 1 1/2", preferably 2".

That is horrible! Sorry about that Spangs.

For those of us not familiar. I have a question. I will have gravity flow from a BD to the stock tank filter. The stock tank will have upward flow through the media to the return, which is about 6 inches below the top of the stock tank. I have thought about putting another bulkhead fitting above the return that would be "tee'ed" into the return pipe going to my pump. Is that the way to do it?

Squidhead
That would offer you a back up line to your pump ,, and sounds like a good plan
A wye close to the pump would be a good choice for the tie in

yes, Squid. That's a good method. You can tee in back to the pump line or back to the pond.

The fitting where your water would return doesn't even need to be at the top of the filter (if you don't have the space for it there, for example). It could be low, as long as the top of the pipe where the water is going to overflow in from is high and wherever you designate as a the max mark.
