Okay the pond, patio is dug & almost there!
Pond size approx. 17.5x8x4 deepest (so about 11x8x4 area) then it slops from about 20-24" deep 8 x24" shelf. This end will also have the 400+ gallon above ground window pond tied into the main Koi pond. I am installing a 3" Rhino floor drain at deep end to a Pro 5000 skimmer which is in the middle at the side of pond. The pump is hydrive 2100gph which will shoot down about 15-17' of one inch line to a modded bio filter(rain barrel/vase) then plumbed into the above ground window pond with a spray bar pushing toward the other end with two return one inch bulk heads with one going to a 40 watt UV to the pond pushing below water & into drain direction. The other return from window pond will go to a spray bar into the pond.
Now ?'s.

1st. the edge around the pond is a bit loose at least 12" into the ground or more. So at this point we are looking to do a 2" thick x12"wide cement pad around the pond to give it a solid edge for liner & paver's going onto it. Any better ideas? Also Its a straight drop on 3 sides.

2nd. Any problem reducing/using the one inch line from pump in skimmer to filter about 17 feet away? It will not be pumping up but horizontally to the lower end of the bio filter. Bio filter will have as the first stage lava rock, then bio balls, then bio matrix, then 30ppi reticulated sponge then near the top before flowing into the window pond will be carbon, phosphate pads, nitrate & nitrite pads.

3rd same as above with the UV having a 1 1/4" threaded to being reduced to one inch line. Will this be a issue? The flow should not be to strong being more gravity fed, in turn more contact for the UV to work better?

Note: the pond will have sand, carpet padding, paver fabric, plastic & styro sheets on the walls etc.. & there will be a small pipe from underneath for gas build up to be released from under the liner.

Many bases being covered, looked at, addressed, figured out as we go.

Thanks in adance,

Hey Dave
I find all that hard to follow clearly, a diagram and pictures would help.
But from what I did manage to glean from all that was you have only one 2100 gph pump and a 3" bottom drain and a skimmer???
That 2100 gph pump doesn't seem like quite enough to get proper flow through just the 3" bottom drain, let alone the skimmer too.
Do you have any kind of settling chamber. It's a bad idea to run dirty pond water directly into filter media that must be removed and cleaned all the time, especially lava rock.

Thanks for the reply. Will try to get pics up later. The skimmer has room for two pumps so if need be will add another. No settling chamber. The skimmer box is serving as the mechanical filtering large debri & waste etc. i will be puting a catch net inside the skimmer fom the bottom drain.

I think so far the filtering etc should work.
My current & main headach is the edge around the pond being strengthen & having a cement guy coming by later today.

Ugh is this becoming a expensive time consuming project!

Have you checked how much loss you'd have? To me it's a lot. A 2" pipe would have little loss, but even 1.5" would be a huge improvement. No sense paying to push 2100gph and getting a lot less.

That's better than no collar. Really should be be reinforced. Without that I'd say you lose maybe 80% of the value. Two strands of continuous rebar. I'd want 4" thick but 3" would be OK if you're not placing multi ton rocks on top. But 2" is still better than nothing.

Yes, reduced flow.

Bio filter will have as the first stage lava rock, then bio balls, then bio matrix, then 30ppi reticulated sponge then near the top before flowing into the window pond will be carbon, phosphate pads, nitrate & nitrite pads.
There are better filters.

Same as above. Not enough detail, but there's no such thing as "more gravity", like "more pregnant".

Note: the pond will have sand, carpet padding, paver fabric, plastic & styro sheets on the walls etc.. & there will be a small pipe from underneath for gas build up to be released from under the liner.
Not sure why you'd use multiple underlayments, but OK. Gas build up? Is that a problem in your area? If you're trying to make sure the liner doesn't float the pipe idea isn't correct.

Thanks wb.
Have the edge figured plus the amount of water in the pond i do not think there will be a issue with sides & edge. Just have to support & keep pavers in place.
For pump, filter etc. i'm going to drill another hole for a bulk head in skimmer just in case i need to add another pump? At least it will be done & ready if needed?
A guy that works at my shop that has done some pond work told me about having a vent for any if gasses build up in the ground to escape? I did read on line on doing it or had issues?
Going to have a pond guy over soon to help.

So more homework, planning & doing!

:)
