Waterfall Weir?

Hi everyone -

Third post in one week! I have one more question concerning the construction of my pondless waterfall.

Is a weir or spillway really neccessary?

I was thinking of simply running my flexible PVC to the the top of the falls, bury it in stones, then let the water pool in a small collection area at the top of the falls, then spilling over a stone to start the falls.

thoughts?

Not 100% sure, but I think the weir is to shape the water for some other purpose such as oxygenating the water for fish or simply beautifying it. If you can get it to look the way you want with rocks, you're good to go.

Each of my waterfall type areas has a collection area above them, then the water just runs down and over the rocks. Works great.
The deck pond and the bog both have a flat rock as their weir, ow the waterfalls are just rocks.

I do the same. I have 2 nice flat and wide rocks. I positioned then with a big stone bowl behind them and the water level in the bowl creates its own niagra falls effect. No weirs at all in my pond.

Flat rocks for my waterfall "weir" as well. I used waterfall foam to seam behind and under so the water is forced above the rock.

Glad to hear it. It seems the weir is optional. Hopefully I finish this weekend. Thanks again!
