waterfall and fountain

I built a nice natural stone waterfall a year ago. The water flow area has now gone a whitish colour I think lime..What can I do to rid it, or could I paint it for a better appearance? What kind of paint

I doubt that paint would adhere to the limescale for very long. Try scrubbing with a stiff brush, even a wire brush. If no fish are involved, you can try vinegar, CLR, or a similar de-scaling agent.
