I have tried water Hyacinth and Water Lettuce in my pond and what I discovered is that 1. Water hyacinth drops black root like substances into the bottom of the pond and become part of Sludge 2. Water Lettuce tends to turn the water slightly brownish.

Has anyone else experienced this situation ?

We have too much sun here, I have even planted two more palm trees just to add more shade to the pond , during the day and full sun the fish hide in shaded areas and you can not enjoy the hobby, algae grows even on the waterfall within a few days. The hobby is however quite enjoyable early in the morning and evening when there is no sun

I would thin out the water hyacinths more frequently. Those black roots are excellent fertilizer for gardens, and they'll come out with the hyacinth when you remove them.

I routinely pull the roots off my water hyacinth - the garden center told me it stimulates growth, which is probably hooey, but I do it anyway - so I can't say I've ever seen them dropping roots.

How big is your pond?

It seems odd to me that, in a pond that size, you could identify the source of pond debris to the roots of the floaters... unless you have a massive amount of them.
