Water Change?

The water in our pond goes down three or four inches in two or three days. I refill the pond from a well. I let the water run for several hours. The overflow in the skimmer keeps the water at the proper level. The fresh water goes in at one end of the pond, about twenty feet from the overflow. Thinking that the cold water is going to the bottom and the top warm water is going out the overflow, am I achieving a water change or is some of the new water going out the overflow?

if your pumping the well water down to the bottom of the pond,it will push the old water out the overflow.. you may lose some of the fresh water but more than enough of it should be the old. especially if your doing it every couple days.
