Most of us are using an 1100 to 1200 GPH pump with the 55 gallon Doc Bio Filter.
I use a 3/4 PVC in and a 2" overflow outlet.
Having the swirl set just right gives you the "Cyclonic Separation" that works with the bio media to give you clean, clear water.

I have some experience building barrel filters. But my supply dried up when I moved. The nearest bottling plant is 5 hours away. Need to check with the carwash guys.

Time to get out the weed whip. This one is a down up with a top container for plants. It was built to filter a small holding pond where we stored the lilies ready for sale. A few fish to keep the mosquitoes down.

I asked about sizing vortexes because I am interested in building on to handle about 10K or so gallons, maybe 2X that. That is why I was looking for tables or formulas.

Time to Google.

I would like to know if you do find some information like that. I really don't know, a formula of some type would be nice if there is such a thing. I'm thinking my next build will be between 4000-7500 gallons and I'm wanting to either go Vortex, or cetus Sieve, The cetus sieve is expensive so leaning more on what is needed for a good vortex and cost would be nice to know.

Our soil has a high clay content. I am thinking I may be able to shape the cone directly in the ground after setting the pipes. Cut liner to fit and glue the seam.

It would allow a lot of latitude in the design. Diameter and pitch.

Fun stuff.

That's twice as much time as we had. LOL I asked could we make it a little longer, it used to be 5 minutes.
