oh, gosh, no! There's nothing we describe here that you need a pro to do. Your hubby would just connect into the line and that is all. It's what I like to call "monkey work." Real simple just following the directions.
I like to put a ball valve before the UV so that I can regulate the flow through the UV in case you have to slow the flow down into it. My preference is also not to have to pump through a UV, but rather divert the water through it and then have it meet your main piping again. Does that make sense?
It all depends on how you plant to use. There are some folks on this site, like koiguy, that can get away with using a UV a week or two out of the pond season and then they put it away. I live in the south with a really long and warm pond season, so mine is on 24/7. I then replace the bulb each spring as part of my annual maintenance. Someone like koiguy can get away with a bulb every two years. So, it all depends on your plan for your UV.
