Hubby and son went out, and I cant remember the brand name of the UV hubby told me to see what I could find for prices on .. I had looked at Laguna's at the store while I was there, and was thoroughly scolded (it was made clear that he has a low opinion of those) ... he said he was only interested in one brand ... it started with aqua-somethingerother and I cant remember ... tried looking on ebay for the name, and they have a few items with aqua in the names ... sigh ... any one have any ideas of what brand he may be referring to?

Thanks WB ,.. I finally found it ... it was Aquatics by Emperor that he's been using. Definately a huge price difference from the Laguna! Yikes.

Yeah, but that's like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Ford Pinto. Emperor uses the best bulbs available. Even better than AquaUV. But for a pond, top of the line isn't always desired.

I dont pretend to know one UV brand from another. That is one subject I am 100% clueless on. Heck, my UV knowledge is limited to single cell goes in alive, and comes out dead LOL.

I thought I was being helpful by noting the prices and asking how many watts he needed. If you're going to call what he likes the Rolls Royce, I now understand why his reaction was so negative LOL.

The bulb in the Emperor can last about 2 years in a pond assuming off for winter. Where the AquaUV is one year and Laguna is who knows. And the Emperor is much less likely to form a white power on the glass which has to be cleaned off. So for maybe $150 more you have fewer call backs. And if the white power does form you don't get called back until after the pond as turned green and you have to deal with that too. But $150 is $150.

I was asking him a bunch of questions about UVs today (I was reading the Emperor site) ... On the Emperor site, I saw they had a model with a "wiper" ... I had to chuckle. Hubby made some sound effects I cant type out (he thought it was foolish) ...

When all is said and done, he says he will install the best quality products the client can afford. When he puts a quote together, it is based on the true costs of materials (including our discounts) and what ever he thinks man hours will be to do the job as promised. It's really that simple. Is $150 going to make a difference on the costs of a pond install? People dont USUALLY get angry for using quality items.

Phoenix is a really different market from San Jose. San Jose was all about quality, natural design, tranquility. Phoenix is more formal because of the climate but also much more cliché (fire pits, colored lights, fog machines) and cheap, cheap, cheap. PVC liner is king here.
