I was on the laguana sight and they have a salt calculator there and for 2000 gallons it said 16 lbs. and to me that seems like a lot of salt or am I wrong .I want plants and since now I know about the plant ring maybe I can have floating plants for once without my fish destroying them .I have always looked at my fish for how much and when to add salt .The black fish I can see for some reason the difference in there bodies ,not sure that is the right way to do it ,but has worked so far

I'll give you some example of the amount of salt in a 1000 gallon pond.

0.1 ppm salt to add 8 1/3 pounds
0.2 ppm salt to add 16 1/2 pounds
0.3 ppm salt to add 25 pounds
0.4 ppm salt to add 33 1/3 pounds

stay at .05 and that's about a little over 4 cups per 1000 gallons.
Remember when you use the higher doses you will have to do partial water changes.

the cheapest route is to buy the Mortons solar salt $4.50 for a 50# bag @ Lowes, Home Depot, etc.. you'll find it in the water softener section.
i maintain an approximate .15% on my outdoor pond with plants the lower salt levels are for the benefit of plants since they have a lower threshold of salt tolerance.
