Hi,
does anyone know if it is ok to dump the old used up activated carbon from the pond filtration system into a compost heap?
Ashes are good as a fertilizer, (that's why the Amazon jungle is being burned) but what about pond carbon?
Thanks.

Well you need carbon to provide energy for microorganisms while they break down your organic matter in a compost pile so I don't see why not. Might be a bit bumpy in there for awhile but who cares...............if you don't neither do I. I sure don't know for positive but my guess is it won't hurt.

What part of the carbon is altered? If I remember correctly, carbon removes microscopic particles by adsorbtion, meaning these particles stick to the outside of the carbon. I doubt that any of these bits of crud (or colourant) would wreak havoc in a compost pile.
