Two pumps?

Hi everyone!

I'm completely new and ignorant about ponds, but the property we live on has two ponds. I believe one was just there naturally and the other one was just a hole that was dug up by the previous owners that eventually filled up with water by itself as well. Anyway, we've lived here for several years already but i never did anything to fix up the ponds, which i want to start tackling now mainly because it's still water and a haven for mosquitos. I have been thinking of getting a pump to get the water flowing and maybe even some sort of water fountain, but the issue is that the pond is in the same area as where i keep my horses in summer, so that we can use the rest of the pasture for hay, due to this it makes it a bit tricky to run electricity to the pond so i was thinking of setting up a solar panel pump, but i read all solar powered pumps are for small pumps/ponds due to the lack of power available to it.
So basically im wondering if there is any downside to having two pumps running in the same pond? There's no fish in the pond, but i do think we have some frogs, not sure if this is relevant.

Welcome! I’d check out pondboss.com. Folks there tend to have really large ponds and small lakes similar to what you have.

Theres no downside I can think of for running more than one pump in a pond.
I would think you can run as many as you like. 2,3,4,10,15, it doesn't matter.

I guess you are considering a couple of solar pumps.

Can I ask why it's a bit tricky to run electricity to the ponds? You mention horses and hay, but what has that got to do with running electricity?
You can dig a trench and lay conduit in it, then pull wire into the conduit. It will be underground and out of harm's way.

the electric bill.. for one

to move enough water in that pond to get it so mosquitoes are irrelevant will take a lot of water movement.

but instead of water pumps think air pumps . fountains help with oxygenating. and air is much cheaper in moving water over water pumps

I always run more than one pump. One for the filter, another for the waterfall, and another for my bog. That just for starters. I have run additional pumps besides that at times! I always buy pumps that are energy efficient. They cost a little more upfront but save a lot on electric bills.

Yes but you have a reasonably sized pond four pumps four power supplies is way to much to play with.
