I just net the bottom of my pond. I use a swimming pool net, picks the stuff up nicely. A skippy type filter would help, you would need a bottom drain/retrofit bottom drain to draw out the debris in the bottom

i would do likewise ...net the debris from the bottom. the skippy will suffice.and will catch the debris that make it in. they will collect on the bottom of the filter. install a flush valve to clean them out. the DIY section here has my builds in there a stocktank style (my preferrence) and the 55 gal drum style. both have flush valves. and if you choose the stocktank style i make and sell waterfall weirs. so the water exits in a sheet like a waterfall should rather than dumping out the end of a pipe. heres a link to the weirs.... https://www.gardenpondforum.com/top...filters/page__pid__110649__st__45#entry110649
and the stocktank build.... https://www.gardenpondforum.com/topic/3510-koiguys-70-gal-skippy-style-filter/
and the 55 gal barrel... https://www.gardenpondforum.com/topic/2766-koiguys-55-gallon-bio-filter-skippy-style/
**the stocktanks allow for a lower profile waterfall, so are easily put pondside...good luck
