I'm installing a DC pump on one of my aquariums, the pump is a Speedwave 2640 (2640 GPH), 85 watts. It works either for submersible or external.

Right now on my pond I have a Little Giant WGP-95 4280 GPH, 700watts.

Even if I have to install a few of the DC pumps to replace my Little Giant, I'll be further ahead GPH wise and use a lot less electricity.
If it works well on the aquarium, I'll probably replace my Little Giant with the Speedwave.

Has anyone else tried a DC pump on their pond?

great that it is big and a lot less wattage than any pump I have seen .But may need a really good prefilter .Never heard of it

DC voltage is really not a good idea with water at all. There is no way to control a leak or short and a GFI does not help prevent shocking if a short occurs. If a leak of electricity does happen you may not know it until you see fish acting funny or you reach over in the tank and get ZAPPED! thank goodness it's usually a low amprage shock but still shocking none the lease. DC pumps are designed for Boats, sumps in basements, places where AC current just isn't feasible or DC voltage is needed in case of a AC outage. They are not designed for continuous use and usually get quite hot after running for very long. This is really not a safe corner to cut. Far to many other areas that cost can be cut and still keep your safety and the safety of your family and fish on the top of your list.

I don't cut corners, and I don't appreciate the inference.
In the instructions for the pump, they specify that the pumps should be used with a GFI.
These pumps, and other manufacturers, are making more and more of this design, specifically for continuous use in an aquarium.
My interest in these pumps is because of the efficiency of moving water using less power.
