Today I went to my local swamp and pulled these cute little things out of the edge of the water. What are they? They have an oval leaf about 2"×3", and slime coated stems that are pink.

Do you think I have enough root for them to be viable?

I'm including a photo of the trash that I picked up for the mile long strip of rural highway that this swamp runs alongside of. I think it's a very fair trade, these plants for picking up all the trash.

(Photo of dead opossum I moved out of the road not included)

It's a very nice addition to the existing pond floaters, it's a much darker green, so it adds contrast.

I'm a little concerned that some of the descriptions I read says that it puts out a chemical that will discourage growth of other things. If everything else starts dying I might have to get rid of it but I'm hoping that that doesn't occur.

I'll probably trim off the leaves that were damaged when I got it in the next few days, I just wanted to give it a good chance to recover before I did too much to it considering how stressful the blasting it with the hose process must be.
