This morning I was surprised to find several "million" tadpoles in my pond. I've read everything from they are deadly to my fish, to enjoy and watch them grow. Should I try to net/trap and relocate, or should I just let them be? I am fairly certain they are "American" toads, as I remember being invaded by toads less that 2 weeks ago.

I have a 2200 gal pond in Michigan with 9 koi, 5 shubunkin, and 3 goldfish in the pond. The fish do not seem to be eating the tadpoles.

Thanks for the help - I'm new to all this, but I love my pond! tads1.JPGtads2.JPG

I had 6 -8 different toads lay eggs in my lotus pond, 1000's of eggs, the pond has rosey red minnows in it and two goldfish. The fish all did fine. They sort of hid down low while the tads grew. I also had toads in my stream, a bunch got washed down into the pond, the fish are all still fine.

why would it be bad ? As soon as they grow legs et can get out they'll leave. There's nothing bad about Nature being Nature.

The only bad thing would be if they killed the fish by being toxic as some people have said. I was just checking to see if anyone had a similar experience.

American toad tadpoles do produce a toxic chemical in their skin to make them taste bad. It's possible for a fish to die from eating them, but pretty rare. Normally they spit them out, basically the same as you would if you put one in your mouth.
