Lots of ticks here, too.  We have "no see-ums" here.  Tiny black flies/bugs that must be all mouth, bite and hurt!  A friend has a large fly, I think he called it a black fly, they are extremely annoying, land on you and don't leave you alone.  I'd never seen them before.  He lives on the hill with a creek below, and in the woods, so maybe they like it where it's cooler, shadier, and wetter.  So far, just one annoying fly in my house, have seen very few bugs or flies outside, but did get bit by the no-see-ums while mowing last time.  You look and don't even see the bugger (well, at least I can hardly see it, it's so small, without my glasses LOL), but they sure bite!  
I've said several times I will sell my place and go live in Virginia with Sissy when I retire.  I think the places are cheap because of lack of jobs, is that right, Sissy?  I can't imagine a new house going for that price.  Are they built very cheap maybe?  Around here, you could not buy the lumber for that size house for 3X that price.  And, that's not including all the furnace, AC, etc. and well and septic and road, etc.
