I was thinking a lot about this subject last night, and have to say I have been really lucky with my doctors. Yesterdays appointment went great. For continued/but now temp pain management, he wanted to give me 50 mg Tramadol ... told him I wanted TEN 5 mg Oxicodone to cover me til surgery (he was willing to schedule immediately, but I want to wait til Fall, better timing for me to be down), and there were no arguements. Love this doctor, but so hard to get an appointment with him. Been seeing his partner, but he made it clear to me yesterday, if I would prefer him, I can see just him. I really like his partner, except for medication issues. He keeps giving me 30 mg Oxicodones (feel like a drug addict cutting them smaller), when I only want 5 mg. I dont care what the BOOKS say the typical med is, if I want LESS, why does it need to be an issue? The last BAD experience I had was a referral to an ortho specialist in 2007. I didnt like the receptionist one bit, then waited and waited ... finally saw the doctor, and while he may have been one of the best, I made an appointment elsewhere for a second opinion. I knew the DX was correct, I just didnt like him ... the doctor for the second opinion (another ortho specialist) was awsome, and I would happily give him positive referrals. He knew his field, was personable, and didnt fight me on MY CHOICE of treatment (I refused surgery, I didnt want a "quick fix" I wanted to HEAL and was willing to wait it out to heal RIGHT).
