Temporary waterfall seal?

I'm working on my waterfall, and I'd like to 'dry stack' my flagstone pieces and experiment with how they'll look before pulling out the waterfall foam and silicon.

What can I use as a temporary seal to force (at least some of) the water over the stones? Some sort of foam, I'm thinking, but for the life of me I'm can't think of a good material to use.

Any ideas before I go walking aimlessly around the hardware store?

Get bubble wrap, or soft foam of some sort and just stick into holes etc to experiment with the way the water will flow. i put plastic bags, bubble wrap, even some foam pieces under the rocks to make the water flow differently to check it out before foaming. some still seeped through, but the majority went where I wanted it to.

Bubble wrap! That might be just the stuff. It's in the house and it would never have occurred to me to try it out. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Many thanks :nananananana:

My first attempt was at least a partial success

The waterfall is about halfway built here. Using bubble wrap I was able to raise the water about 1", and get water flowing over the first couple layers of stone. I learned a few things and should be able to do a better job on my second test.

I can see now how plastic grocery bags could be useful. I recently trimmed the line so I'll have those scraps to use as well :beerchug:

You've got the hang of it...................I changed the way mine looked several times before I was finally satisfied and who knows I may change it again and again and again. Mine isn't glued in place..........it just goes where it flows
