Hey all. Happy Spring. I've been meaning to check in earlier but... ya know.... To the point. I have had tadpoles through the ENTIRE winter.... My pond froze over here for long periods of time (Southern NJ) but the tadpoles stayed with it.
I have over twenty in my pond. I hate to sound ignorant but I didn't know that could happen. I have one small bullfrog who has popped out so far this spring but the tadpoles really surprised me.
My pond is 15' long 6'wide and goes to a depth of 36ish inches...lol

Can anyone educate me on these guys? I can get pics if wanted.

The bull frog and the green frog both over winter as tads. They can morph the same year, but usually morph the second year. I have tons from last summer, well not tons, but quite a few.

I also had no idea tadpoles could winter over. This is the first year I noticed it. Got plenty of fresh eggs this week too!

Thanks for the input, All! I'm curious as to how many will make it. One small bullfrog has appeared so far this spring. My big guy who has come back the last three years hasn't made an appearance yet.

I have pulled a bunch out of the skimmer, see 3-5 jumping in when I walk down by the pond. I have a bunch of tads in the small ponds. You probably have more than you think you do.
