Surprise Barrel Pond

So my mother looked after our 5 year old son yesterday whilst we were at work. We came back to a half wine barrel pond with 3 golden orfe in it (at least we think that is what they are, she wasnt sure..) Lovely idea to make one but would have preferred minus fish…

We havent seen the fish at all. They seem to be hiding. Also not eating any fish food. Understandably we are quite anxious, we were not expecting to look after fish, and after some research I know they probably shouldnt be in there.

Any tips are welcome, we really do not want to spend a fortune.

Wow, nice of her but I don't know how big the Orfe if that's what they are will grow. Not much room in there for even goldfish. Maybe some tiny minnows would be better. Plus the side of that container might not hold up long due to the water pressure pushing on it.
Oh no! I just looked up how big the Orfe will grow and it said a foot or more, yikes! Better find someone else fast who has a bigger pond or take them back to the river if that's where she got them. It also said if the pond is too small they will jump out!

Eeek. We’ve just managed to get them a new home in next doors pond - a heron had got her previous orfe so all worked out well in the end. Phew!

if you don't put a netted tent over that little pond the little one "kid" is constantly going to be looking for and wondering what happened to the fish.

more than likely there is a filter in that water fountain which is realy all you need if you just put a minnow or two in there. the fountain will add oxygen so just a little netting to keep out racoons or birds is all youll need
