Hello All

I have a small pond with 8 fish in it, one died last night, I have a new Hoselock ultraviolet filter/ pump/ fountain and pond is full of foam which looks a mess.

What can I do about it

Pond is a month or so old but water was transferred from old pond, water is green as before, foam builds up as soon as you have skimmed it, only happened since new Hoselock ultraviolet filter/ pump/ fountain

If your pond is very small, then the easy fix is water change. Replace 10 or 20% today, then wait a couple of days and do it again. Do this until the water looks good.

Hello Waterbug, I did read up on Foam Fractionators, protein skimmers, d.o.c. and decided that its not a route I want to fully explore, pond isn't big enough, I'm not keen enough so looking for the simple fix, which there probably isn't.
I go back to the fact that before I changed the, pump fountain to the new Hoselock jobby I didn't have the foam, three fish have died now as well, concerned by that. I think maybe things will settle down and a gradual waterchange cant hurt, patience required i think

I can tell you there's no solution simpler than a foam fractionator or on going water changes.

Increase water agitation does increase the chance of DOCs causing foam. DOC levels high enough to cause foam would also be a clue to long term poor water quality which can lead to fish deaths. It's not so much the DOCs themselves as what produced the DOC also producing other things that harm water quality.
