Strange Organisms in my pond

Hi all. I am new on this forum. So I have been building ponds and owned fish tanked for many years. Currently I have a newish pond. Only about a month old which is very healthy with comets and 2 large apple snails. I however found a very strange organism which in all my years I have never seen in any of my ponds before. I was hoping someone would be able to identify it for me? They seem like filter feeders as they are attached to the waterfall rocks and only seems to be to the waterfall area.

They very much resemble mosquito larvae in a way but if they are why do they attach only to the waterfall rocks? There is nothing I can see in the pond itself.

Oh and the fish will eat the ones they can reach.

Thanks @Addy. Yes That post did nail it. I am 42 years old and have dealt with fishtanks, fresh and marine, and built many ponds with many species of fish but I have honestly not once seen blackfly larvae in any pond so I am happy to say you do learn every day.

Yes we do learn a lot and it's fun to find out so many different things and how everybody has different ways of doing them all.
