Anyone have and tips for finding and getting rid of a snapping turtle in my pond? At least that is what I think I am dealing with. Unfortunately, I found two frogs with most of their hind legs gone, just bone left.

I think you can " fish" for them with a hook baited with meat. I'd be prepared to know what to do if you catch it....a large net and another pair of helping hands.

Thanks. I will try liver and a hook. Do you know if there is a way to trap them?

Be careful! Is there a professional that can do it! Snapping turtles can get pretty big and can bite off a digit!

I should be good. I've handled them before when helping them cross busy roads, just never had to catch one.
Aw, you’re so kind! I found a teeny tiny baby snapping turtle in my driveway once. It was totally dehydrated and was probably dropped by a bird or something. Before freeing it in the stream, nearby, I made sure it was fit. Then I thought, “Oh, shoot. Now there’s a snapping turtle in the stream where I let my dog swim”. But I don’t live there now so oh well!

Setting out a trap with a juicy morsel of cooked chicken for bait, just before dark is an irresistible temptation to a sneaky snapping turtle.

All going well the pesky beast will be waiting in his cage the next day for room services...

Over the years I've relocated every snapping turtle 3"-15" from chowing down on waterlilies and critters with effective live traps, usually next day results....

Can i use a live trap that I have for squirrels? I looked at turtle traps and they are expensive.

Why struggle guessing what else may work on what is a very difficult, sneaky predator that can destroy entire waterlily baskets overnight. When the critter is trapped and gone, crisis over, sell the trap to the next person in need.
