Hi,

I recently bought a 50 gallon pre-formed container, and am keeping it above ground on a patio. It will get light partial shade for some of the day. I haven't bought plants for it yet, and it just has some water lettuce for now. I will probably put in one lily or something like that. Anyway, it seems so empty without fish, and I was wondering if there are some smaller tropical fish that might do okay in it. I expect the water temp to stay around 80-85F for the summer. (I have four comets in a 500+ gallon mostly above ground pond that is heavily planted with lilies and some other aerators and marginals). Any suggestions?? I'd also considered small native fish like pygmy sunfish or killifish, but was hoping for something more colorful. (I also have a pond in my box turtle enclosure that has a couple types of native killis and newts). I'm near Gainesville, Florida.

Thanks!

50 gallons is too small to keep fish in outside--particularly in florida. that body of water would heat up too quickly and the fish would likely boil.

Sounds like it would be right for a lilly pond and that's it.

Koikeeper is right, you will have a lot of trouble keeping the water healthy for fish. Maybe an aquarium filter running 24/7 will help but they get clogged easily when you have plants.
