Neat! When our maple tree starts dropping those seed pods my skimmer is worth millions.............. It collects tons of seed pods.

Yesterday with the horrendous rain it collected 1000's of tads.

I was running my skimmer all day and noticed it was really pulling a lot of water for the size of my pond (aprox 1000 gal) so now I just run it an hr in the AM and an hr in the PM and my water is crystal clear also. If I start to notice an algae issue I will increase the time but thought it was silly keeping another pump on all day.

well I put the pump inside the skimmer basket that then pumps it through the bio-filter so I only need one pump

My pump is external it draws water through the skimmer and from the pond, have a ball valve installed to control the flow.

Now that I'm learning a little about this stuff I can tell you that my external pump is for my main filtration which circulates water to my waterfall and I have a pipe in the rock/gravel which it pulls from at the bottom. My skimmer has a pump inside it which draws from the ponds surface and has a net and filter inside. Wich brings me to asking you guys what type of filter pad do you use in your skimmer. I bought really cheap stuff on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045VN23C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And it keeps getting sucked down into the pump. I need something stiffer and have seen all types of colors and coarseness available.

I just have a huge leaf basket in the skimmer, different than your set up.
